People travel in their business clothes because they may need to see a client the second they step off the plane. In some cases they do it because they check their bag and the airline might lose it. If they do, they then do not have to scramble around to find a business ensemble.

When I traveled, I always wore business attire on the way to the customer. On the way home, I dressed in blue jeans and t-shirts.

The only times I've needed to travel in business clothes were when I had to meet with clients/employers immediately after arriving. Else I don't bother.
